Marcassite covering Baryte, from Lubin -Poland-
PUMI2699
These warm brown and golden tones correspond to a marcasite overgrowth on a baryte nodule. This rounded, botryoidal structure (literally “kidney-shaped”) is typical of the Lubin Mine in Poland, where copper and silver mining occasionally reveals cavities lined with such mineral aggregates.
The light brown baryte, recognisable by its thin, lamellar structure at the core of the nodule, was later coated by a fine layer of marcasite (an iron disulphide closely related to pyrite).
Mounted on a centrifuged brass base, the piece appears almost suspended, emphasizing the organic nature of this geological formation.
