Sphere made of elytra (wing case) of jewel-beetles from Thailand - Sternoceras Aequisignata- These beetles of the family Buprestidae spend their larval life (2 years) in tree trunks, and their adult life is short (3 weeks). They are therefore focused on fast reproduction. They are traditionally eaten fried in the northern night-markets of Thailand and Myanmar. We work with a few restaurants that regularly send us this "left over" that is too hard to eat... and this material is naturally iridescent from purple to green according to your movements around this ball...
