Crystal tip with contemporary intaglio - Brazil
PUMI2737
This crystal tip was engraved by a young Brazilian lapidaire, son of the owner of the mine where this crystal was found. He is initiated into the ancient techniques of intaglio (originally, to hollow-carve a mineral to make an embossed wax stamp). But with a contemporary look, the engraving is made to be viewed through transparent crystal. Moreover, in a rock crystal prism, the pattern is also reflected on the other faces of the mineral, creating an almost holographic optical effect. Here no Roman profiles, but precise geometric patterns.
A clever play on perspective that turns this mineral into a true curiosity specimen. Displayed in a glass and brass box with an opening lid, allowing it to be admired from every angle.
