5 Madagascar's toothed oysters under glass dome

PU1130

A glass globe of canivorous plants?
This shell that looks like a jaw of a sea monster was discovered in 1927 and was named "ostrea tridacnaeformis"; oyster in the shape of agiant clam. Indeed its uneven valves look like a Tridacna, but more angular. Moreover, in English its name is The Oyster Zigzag. This bi-valve now part of the Lopha family is a wild oyster found in Madagascar. This monster's jaw has grown slowly filtering sea water to feed on nutrients. An underwater oddity.
