SPONDYLUS VARIEGATUS

PU1162-2

The genus SPONDYLUS, often referred to as “thorny oysters,” includes bivalve mollusks renowned for their eccentric shapes and vivid colours. This particular specimen, SPONDYLUS VARIEGATUS, is characterised by a dramatically textured exterior and a striking orange interior. It comes from the shallow coastal waters of the Pacific side of South America, especially around Peru.
Mounted on a brushed brass base, the shell becomes a natural curiosity specimen, bridging the worlds of marine biology and decorative arts.
