Atlantic puffin stuffed under glass
PU760
The Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) is a species of North Atlantic seabird that lives on the high seas, except during its mating period, which forces it to join the mainland where it nests on grassy slopes of islands. It feeds on fish. Its short wings give it a low flight on the water but it flies very badly, however it is an excellent swimmer, capable of long apneas. The puffins do not use their webbed legs to swim, but their wings. It has been taxidermized on the Faroe Islands by Christer Alström in the 1960s.
