This incredible stone is called a Gongshi, in Chinese. It is natural, but of course the rectangular shape has been cut by man. It is part of the scholar's rock that have been collected in China since at least two thousand years. These rocks were used to help focus the mind during creative process. they just evoke so many different things to each observer, as they are totally abstract patterns. This particular type is the landscape-rock, like the famous Paesina from Firenze in Italy. Technically , these dendritic dark "tree-shapes" are manganese oxide inclusions inside the matrix.
