Purpurite from Brazil (1.2kg), on black base
PUMI2595
This 1.2kg block of purpurite originates from the Pamaró mine in Linópolis, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It stands out for its intense violet color, a rarity among minerals. Purpurite owes its vibrant hue to a composition rich in manganese and iron phosphate, which also grants it silvery reflections depending on the angle of light. The white streaks contrasting with the violet are feldspar inclusions.
