Apophyllite and Stilbite from India
PUMI2689
This geode mixing transparent apophyllite, salmon Stilbite on a blue chalcedony background comes from the volcanic soils of the state of Maharashtra, in India. This mineral is formed in the cavities of basalt, in contact with ancient hydrothermal flows.
The apophyllite crystals are here very pure. A warmer, orange-pink central line runs through the specimen: it is an oxidized stilbite crystallization, which borrowed the same fracture once used by the mineralized fluids several million years ago. And it is the blue chalcedony, darker at the bottom, which constitutes the background: a set that can only be found in Poona
Mounted on a discreet black base, this fragment of an Indian volcano tells in detail the story of a turbulent cooling.
