STIBNITE from China -Jiangxi-
PUMI2701
STIBNITE (also known as antimonite, or Stibine) is an antimony sulphide characterised by elongated prismatic crystals, often forming aligned bundles. It develops in medium-temperature hydrothermal veins, typically associated with quartz and calcite.
This specimen comes from China, one of the world’s main sources of stibnite. The crystals display a particularly dense development, with sharp terminations and the typical steel-grey tone of antimony minerals. It is this metal that was crushed into powder to form the kohl used to make a line of makeup under the eyes in the Arab world.
Mounted on a discreet black base, the piece highlights the common direction of the crystal growth.
