Cobra leaf of BACTRIS GASIPAES
PUVE102-1
This strong leaf, nicknamed “cobra” for its coiled shape reminiscent of a rearing snake, comes from the BACTRIS GASIPAES, a palm native to Central America. It’s not its rarity that makes it remarkable, but rather its unexpected, almost sculptural form shaped by natural growth constraints.
Botanically speaking, palms are monocotyledons: they don’t produce true wood, but instead grow a fibrous trunk (or stipe) through the repeated addition of vascular bundles. In that sense, they are closer to giant herbs than to trees. This in‑between status gives the seed a fitting place in a cabinet of curiosities.
A botanical oddity, elevated by a simple stand.
