Septaria pair with baryte (Hautes Alpes - France)
PUMI1945-1
Baritic nodule whose heart consists of barite needles drowned in Calcite. This almost perfect ball was sawn in 2 and then slightly polished. It almost looks like ideograms of an Asian language. It was discovered in the French Hautes-Alpes, in Veynes. The soil made of marl where it was found was the bottom of the sea at the time of the Secondary Era ( 250 million years ago). Like all Septarias, they were formed in the mud of the seabed, around organic debris that contained anaerobic bacteria: capable of developing without oxygen. It was the infiltration of Baryum after a long process that gave these Barite crystals.
