URUACU (Brazil) meteorite in vertical levitation
PUMI2086
A rare Siderite (therefore a ferrous meteorite): Uruaçu, first discovered in 1992 in central Brazil. Only 4 pieces discovered until 2000. It is composed of an alloy of Iron and Nickel (93% iron), as well as Cohenite, an iron carbide that is only found on Earth in meteorites. We also note the presence of schreibersite (an iron-nickel phosphide) also formed during the very slow cooling of this meteorite in space. We don’t know what the total mass was, and there’s probably more to come. like its neighbour, the meteorite Campo del Cielo (Argentina), it comes from the melting core of an asteroid at the edge of our solar system. 8.5 Grams
