Amethyst geode -small crystals- from Brazil
PUMI2453
Amethyst is a type of purple quartz, of magmatic origin.
It is found in cavities formed millions of years ago by old gas bubbles frozen in lava, in which very hot water concentrated in silica and iron minerals circulated. It is the more or less important amount of iron minerals and their type, which will determine the coloring of these sublime crystals.
As it cooled, this water began to leave deposits on the cavity walls, turning them into beautiful purple crystal geodes in a few million years. In this case the crystals are small, but incredibly numerous. This lthick 3.5Kg piece comes from the area of Minas Gerais in Brazil, where it is a rare form (these small crystals looks like the amethysts of Uruguay).
