Giant blue Agate slice from Brazil, black base

This very large Brazilian agate of 53cm high is naturally blue. Before it became a slice of giant agate, it was a large basalt pebble found in Rio Grande do sol, Brazil, which was cut and polished. And before that it was an air bubble trapped in the cooled lava of a volcano. The lava has become basalt: a porous rock, and this chamber has been successively filled, over millennia, with water with dissolved minerals. Each flood brought a layer of density and different color... When this slice is crossed by light, its true magic is revealed. The transparency of the agate reveals hidden patterns like this crystallized pocket of red hematite and unexpected golden hues.
Mounted on an elegant black base, this slice is both a fragment of the Earth and a work of art on its own.
