Malachite stalagmite (Congo) in a circular holder
PUMI2660
This malachite stalagmite top comes from deposits in the Katanga province of Congo, a region renowned for its copper-rich formations. Unlike the usual spherical nodules, this piece features successive layers of malachite, characteristic of a stalagmitic formation. They form slowly, by the accumulation of mineral deposits from copper-laden water that trickles down from the ceiling of the cavities.
Polished to reveal its details, the piece reveals alternating shades of green, from darker to brighter. The back is a strong blue Chrysocolla layer. This linear, harmonious structure tells the story of a slow, methodical geological process.
