Complete Ammonite from Madagascar cut and polished
PUFO485-3
This fossilized ammonite Cleoniceras comes from the deposits of Mahajanga in Madagascar. The ammonites, cephalopod molluscs now extinct, are close to the current nautils. Their spiral shell, divided into chambers, allowed them to control their buoyancy in the water, a system that remains fascinating. Dating from the Lower Cretaceous, about 130 million years ago, it offers a fascinating testimony of prehistoric marine life in Albian.
Sawn in two and polished, this piece reveals its internal chambers with the most beautiful color it is: the caramel Calcite. And each chamber left empty means that the shell did not penetrate over these 100 million years. The outer side has preserved almost all of its layer of mother-of-pearl: beautiful.
Perfect for adding a prehistoric touch to your everyday life.
