Slice of Agate (Brazil)
PUMI1856-16
Originally from Brazil, this natural agate slice shows a regular succession of honey-brown, amber and golden-yellow bands, formed by successive silica deposits inside a volcanic cavity.
The centre is not open to the outside, but forms a closed concentric pattern, clearly visible at the heart of the piece.
When lit from the front, the contrast between the dark and light zones is particularly strong.
When backlit, the colours become translucent and the internal structure takes on a lace-like appearance, making this slice a genuine geological curiosity, fully in line with the world of cabinet of curiosities.
Displayed on a square brass base, the piece is deliberately understated in order to highlight both the light effect and the internal structure of the agate.
