Slice of golden Agate (Brazil)
PUMI1856-18
This golden slice is Brazilian, and comes from a geode of Calcedony. It has been formed by successive deposits of Silica and minerals or oxides dissolved in water and seeping into the soil. When it is a volcanic soil, as in this case in Brazil, the water sometimes reaches a pocket of air that has frozen in the lava, when it has cooled. And it forms successive layers over the months and years, with lighter or darker lines. The heart is very often formed of hyalin quartz (rock crystal), which allows light to cross this slice to reveal its unique patterns.
