Black Filamentous Sea Fan (Leptogorgia virgulata)
PUVE089
Leptogorgia virgulata, commonly known as the whip coral or sea whip, is native to the Atlantic coast of the Americas, from Chesapeake Bay to Brazil. When alive, it displays vibrant red to orange hues, but once dried, it takes on a deep black color.
Unlike rigid corals, it has a flexible skeleton, once home to translucent white polyps, each equipped with eight tentacles to capture drifting plankton.
Its display within a slender glass dome, set on a brass base, provides the perfect showcase for its elongated and delicate form.
